Our Time Will Come Again

Moisture runs down the scales of my face.

Dragons do not cry.

Though I would have every reason to do so if we did. My brothers and sisters are fleeing, bruised and bleeding. We have been hunted in our caves, ousted from our homes.

Many have fallen.

The humans have gathered in great numbers, they have forged weapons strong enough to pierce our hide. This is a losing battle.

For now.

Fire burns in my belly, in my blood. Those of us who still live will find a new home and we will regain our strength.

Then we shall return.

The Final Blow

Aethyr’s final blow of his sword cut through the lich lord’s spine, black fragments of bones shattered and scattered like shrapnel.

All around them, skeletons collapsed into heaps of bones. The heroes were left standing—though barely—victorious.

Mason panted heavily, plenty of cuts and bruises marked his body.

Lyssa lay on the ground gasping as she saw her life flash before her eyes. The skeleton that would have been her death though, was no more.

The heroes laughed and hugged, another evil defeated.

Aethyr hid his pain as they embraced, shards of black spreading corruption as they journeyed home.
